Montclair Design Week is an annual 10-day program of talks, tours, installations and workshops that celebrate our collective capacities. The program offers an opportunity for creatives, entrepreneurs and optimists spanning many backgrounds and interests to come together to share ideas, share their talents and consider how design can be used as a force for good in an increasingly complex and precarious world.
MDW was launched in 2018 as the signature program of DesignShed, the year-round engine that powers other outcome-oriented endeavors like Mapping Montclair, Project PIVOT and the Montclair chapters of Pecha Kucha and The Awesome Foundation. Curation of the program is led by its founder Petia Morozov, with enormous support from trustees Iain Kerr, Co-Director of MIXLAB and Emergent Futures Lab, and Rebecca Irby, founder and Executive Director of PEAC Institute and MidHeaven Network.
Montclair Design Week is produced into two streams; Featured programs, and Public programs which are submitted under our various Calls for Submission. The Public program makes up 50% of the Montclair Design Week's program with events held at local venues, studios, retail spaces, universities, galleries and public spaces throughout greater Montclair. Prospective event hosts develop submissions in response to a provocation set by Montclair Design Week curators that address key issues facing our region and the world. Participants are called to consider how we might work together to create a better, healthier future for the planet and its inhabitants.
The program is built on the enthusiastic engagement and participation of our diverse community. Since 2018, our reach and impact has grown in scope and scale, making Montclair Design Week New Jersey’s largest design event. We look forward to many years of talking, making, sharing, imagining, listening and ultimately, transforming.
